Germany lift the Confederations Cup 2017

The youthful Germany side lifted the FIFA Confederations Cup after overcoming tournament debutants Chile by 1-0 in a thrilling encounter at the Kazan arena in Russia on Sunday.

Diaz was punished wrong turn after Timo Weiner tracked him from behind to square off the anticipating Lars Stindl who simply placed the ball into the back of an empty net for the only goal of the final.

Germany was pressed during the best part of the first half with Chile enjoying the most ball possession and shots at goal which were denied by the strong hands of Marc Andre- Ter Stegan and disciplined defending.

Chile who were attacking from all angles were led by Arsenal star player Alexis Sanchez and Bayern Munich anchorman Arturo Vidal but could not make a break through.

After taking the lead in the first half Germany increased their attacking zeal through captain Draxler and Goretzka to give Bravo and the Chilean defence a torrid time.

Chilean coach was sent off after protesting against the referee for turning down the penalty appeal in an incident he assumed Sanchez was illegally brought down in the 16 yard box.

Chile had great chances in the dying minutes of the match to level matters but blew them over from target depriving them an opportunity to succeed.

Chile tried some neat passes in the midfield and distant shooting which failed to yield as Germany managed to contain their opponents and denied them any scoring opportunity till the last minute.

Germany striker Weiner was awarded with the golden boot whilst Chilean goalkeeper Bravo was given the golden glove. The influential German captain Draxler was crowned with the golden ball and named player of the tournament.
