Former vice president Emersson Dambudzo Mnangagwa who was recently fired from ZANU PF and government fled the country and is believed to be in hiding in South Africa.

It is understood that Mnangagwa fled through Mozambique but was denied exit at Forbes border post in Mutare on Tuesday morning.

He later issued a 5 page statement from his new base in South Africa where he said that his sudden departure was caused by threats to his life and family by those who previously attempted to do so.

“I will not go anywhere. I will fight tooth and nail against those making a mockery against Zanu PF founding principles, ethos and values” read the statement by Mnangagwa.

But activists and other pro-democracy individuals believe that Mnangagwa fled because is his hands are dirty because of what he committed previously in suppressing the masses thorugh henous acts such as Gukurahundi and the June 2008 political violence that returned Mugabe in office after first round defeat by Morgan Tsvangirai in March 2008.

There is a video of Mnangagwa that is circulating on social media where he is admitting to be the architect of the bloody June 2008 presidential rerun between Morgan Tsvangirai and president Mugabe.

Others are of the view that Mnangagwa is running away because of his family’s illegal economic activities such as money laundering, gold buying which can lead to arrest.
