Zengeza 2 – ZANU PF youth displayed acts of barbaric as they disrupted a public meeting convened by Chitungwiza Resident Trust (CHITREST) at Mubayiwa hotel yesterday. The meeting meant to address the pertinent issues affecting the community especially the expulsion of Councillors, corruption and the ad hoc commission set by the Minister of Local Government Saviour Kasukuwere.

According to CHITREST, the organizers of the event, the public meeting was supposed to be addressed by Pawadyira Madzudzo the Chairperson of the commission appointed by Minister Kasukuwere to run the affairs of the Municipality, ZANU PF and MDC-T representative.

The meeting which was set to start at 1400 hours, booked for the venue and above all had a police clearance was controversially stopped from taking place as the ZANU PF activist were mobilized and bused to the venue before the time.

A large fraction of the Chitungwiza residents were turned away from the venue by ZANU PF activists who were frankly telling them that there is no meeting here.

The ZANU Pf mafia had arguments in suspense not clearly stating who had sent them and the particular reasons for disrupting the meeting but it is suspected that suspended ZANU PF Councillors and the land barons who benefited in the corruption scandals stopped the meeting.

When Chitownews Team arrived at the venue, scores of ZANU PF youths were drinking Chibuku beer and shouting that no meeting is going to take place here today.

But what was surprising is that the activists had issues with the running of the local authority as some of them queried why Coucillors, Town Clerk and Management fly to Zimbabwe International Trade Fair when there is nothing the municipality is exhibiting.

Some queried the state of service delivery, uncollected refuse and collapsed road network as some of their grievances against the municipality but would not agree to a meeting to discuss those issues to take place.

“How do you want to justify that someone flies to ZITF, given allowances and for what purposes”, shouted another activist.

The Director of CHITREST Mr Marvellous Khumalo said he was disappointed that the country is fast degenerating into a chaotic country and politics is taking the lead instead of the issues.

“We are obviously disappointed that the Zimbabwe is degenerating into a chaotic country. Politics is forced to take the lead interms of issues that had nothing to do with politics. We wanted to discuss purely community issues, purely civic issues  and the interest of politicians in disturbing” said Khumalo.

The uncalled for intimidating environment created by the ruling party’s youth wing has left most residents predicting another phase of politically motivated violence towards the much anticipated 2018 election.

The ferocious campaign was viewed by many as the highlights the political atmosphere for the fourth coming 2018 general elections which might be decided by the current political and economic vicious circle the country is detained.
