On Tuesday 16th of January, Minister of Arts, Sports and Recreation, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe held a consultative meeting and addressed artists and creative industry practitioners in Chitungwiza.
The Minister said he was here to listen to the concerns of artists and chart a common way forward as to find ways to build a vibe community with them since they are a great tool to economic development and growth.
He noted the problems and barriers faced by artists describing his brief as taking arts to be part of the mainstream economy in both rural and urban communities. He said that he came with an open mind to find solutions from the artists.
He said that he is striving to give dignity to our creative minds as a nation and that he is operating on a 100-day performance target so as to get quick wins for the creative industries.
He said the government will create an enabling environment for artists to access markets locally and internationally, grow their audiences and make a living from Art.
Chairperson of National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Mr. Hebert Chimhundu said the arts sector needed to be revamped, upgraded and revive the arts development fund.
The interactive process allowed participants to put questions to the Minister as they aired their views and exchanged notes.
